Headword: *la/gunos
Adler number: lambda,32
Translated headword: flask, flagon
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] the all-receiving.
Greek Original:
*la/gunos: o( pandektiko/s.
Notes:
Same entry, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon (141). For this headword see also lambda 33.
In the present entry we should probably understand 'all-receiving' in the sense of capacious, rather than meaning capable of holding any fluid; but lacking a context we cannot be sure.
The glossing adjective is almost unique but does occur in Proclus, Eclogae de philosophia Chaldaica fr. 1, line 2 (= Oracula Chaldaica 202 des Places), where it describes the hall of God.
Keywords: daily life; definition; food; philosophy; religion
