To probe [mhlw=sai] is what the physicians call inserting a probe somewhere. There was also a certain proverb in reference to those who conjecture about unknown matters. Dyeing fleeces is also called katamhlou=n ["plunging"], when they are moved and pressed down.

Katamêlên: mêlôsai kalousin hoi iatroi to mêlên katheinai pou. ên de kai paroimia tis epi tôn ta adêla tekmairomenôn. legetai de katamêloun kai to baptein eria, hotan piezêtai kinoumena.
Similar entry already in Hesychius (kappa1266, s.v. katamhlw=sa1) and in Pollux 4.181. Photius has the Suda's entry but under the headword katamhlw=n, as translated here; cf. kappa 649. The Suda's headword as transmitted is katamh/lhn (ms G) or katami/lhn, the latter appropriate to alphabetical order.
Besides kappa 649, cf. also kappa 1518, mu 940, mu 1059.
