To probe [mhlw=sai] is what the physicians call inserting a probe somewhere. There was also a certain proverb in reference to those who conjecture about unknown matters. Dyeing fleeces is also called katamhlou=n ["plunging"], when they are moved and pressed down.

Similar entry already in Hesychius (kappa1266, s.v. katamhlw=sa1) and in Pollux 4.181. Photius has the Suda's entry but under the headword katamhlw=n, as translated here; cf. kappa 649. The Suda's headword as transmitted is katamh/lhn (ms G) or katami/lhn, the latter appropriate to alphabetical order.
