Headword: Καθαλάμενος
Adler number: kappa,30
Translated headword: having leapt down
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he] having dismounted. "Having leapt down from the horse he drew his sword and struck him".[1]
Greek Original:
Καθαλάμενος: καταπηδήσας. ὁ δὲ καθαλάμενος ἀπὸ τοῦ ἵππου καὶ τὸ ξίφος ἑλκύσας παίει αὐτόν.
Notes:
The headword participle (from the verb καθάλλομαι ) is presumably extracted from the quotation given.
[1] Adler identified this quotation, as far as 'horse', as Xenophon, Hellenica 4.5.7. However, that passage then goes on quite differently from the present one: "having leapt down from the horse and run up to him [sc. Agesilaos] he described, with a most sad countenance, what had happened to the detachment at Lechaion". (For text see web address 1 below.) The present quotation, therefore, should be regarded as unidentifiable.
