Headword: *koila/s
Adler number: kappa,2539
Translated headword: hollow
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] a multitude, or a depth.
Greek Original:
*koila/s: to\ plh=qos, h)\ to\ ba/qos.
Notes:
The first gloss seems to be a mistake. Küster suggested emending to pedi/on ("plain"), comparing Hesychius kappa3233 (and for other geographical uses of the term 'hollow' cf. Hesychius kappa3234, ps.-Herodian 74, kappa 2536, kappa 2537). Adler also cites the suggestion of Bos: pla/tos ("breadth") on the basis of comparison with kappa 2791. For the second gloss, cf. Hesychius kappa3234, kappa3235, and ps.-Herodian 74. Adler also cites the Ambrosian Lexicon (1377).
