[1] Greek Anthology 6.40.7-8 (Macedonius the Consul); see already (with some abbreviation) at alpha 1579. On this epigram, wherein a modestly successful farmer (referring to himself in the third person here) makes a dedication to Demeter, see Madden (172-175). The poet introduces two neologisms in these last lines: the headword adjective itself (on Corinthian bumper crops see alpha 1579 note) and a)filosta/xuos ("without corn", "cornless", i.e. "starving"); cf. Madden (175).
