Headword: *ko/nnou yh=fon
Adler number: kappa,2048
Translated headword: Konnos' vote
Vetting Status: high
[sc. A proverbial phrase] in reference to worthless people/things. Konnos was a lyre-player -- one of the ones without a voice, some say -- or in some accounts a kithara-player.
Greek Original:
*ko/nnou yh=fon: e)pi\ tw=n ou)deno\s a)ci/wn. o( de\ *ko/nnos lurw|do\s h)=n, w(/s tine/s fasin, tw=n a)fw/nwn: w(s de/ tines kiqarw|do/s.
Aristophanes, Wasps 675, with scholion (the latter giving the variant *ko/nnou qri=on). Also in Hesychius and Photius -- but not, despite this glossing, in the paroemiographers.
This Konnos is perhaps to be distinguished from the inebriated piper Konnas (kappa 2027), though orthodoxy thinks not: see e.g. LSJ s.v. *konna=s.
