Notes:
[1] Poetic word, of general application (there is no single-word equivalent in English); cf. kappa 1881, and LSJ entry at web address 1.
[2] Greek Anthology 6.101.1 (Philip), the old cook Timasion dedicates culinary tools to Hephaestus (eta 661); cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 306-309), (vol. II, 341), and further excerpts at epsilon 3243, zeta 135, kappa 2361, and rho 181. As Gow notes (63-64), cooks were often recruited for butchering animals, but calling his cutting implements "swords" is pretentious on Timasion's part (cf. Gow and Page, vol. II, 341).
