Headword: *keuqh/mwn
Adler number: kappa,1436
Translated headword: of hiding-places
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] of lairs, of places hidden-away.
Greek Original:
*keuqh/mwn: fwlew=n, a)pokru/fwn to/pwn.
Notes:
Genitive plural, glossed here as in Photius, Lexicon kappa632 Theodoridis and elsewhere.
The word is not otherwise attested, and the likeliest explanation for it is as a duplicate of keuqmw/n "hiding-place" (kappa 1438) --- which is the next entry in Photius. (The keuqh=nes of kappa 1437 are unlikely to account for the inserted eta, since they do not appear in Photius.)
The glossing given here does not match exactly any attested gloss for keuqmw/n, though cf. the D scholia on Homer, Iliad 13.28 (panto/qen e)k keuqmw=n: e)k tw=n kataduse/wn kai\ fwlew=n) and on Homer, Iliad 21.23, glossing muxou/s: "lairs. He means innermost and hidden-away places" (*fwleou/s. le/gei de\ tou\s e)swta/tw to/pous kai\ a)pokru/fous).
