Headword: *)/idh
Adler number: iota,101
Translated headword: Ide, Ida, wood
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[sc. A term applicable to] every wooded mountain.[1]
Also [sc. attested is] Idaion, a cave in Crete.[2]
Greek Original:
*)/idh: pa=n su/mfuton o)/ros. kai\ *)idai=on, a)/ntron e)n *krh/th|.
Notes:
[1] (Same or similar glossing in other lexica.) There was a small place called Ide -- the present headword -- on the neck of the Chersonnese (Barrington Atlas map 51 grid H3), but no mountain; so this would more probably refer to Mt Ida in the Troad (map 56 grid D2) and/or Mt Ida(ion) in central Crete (map 60 grid C2). However, the headword is more probably lower-case, i.e. generic; see Hesychius s.v., LSJ s.v., and Renehan (below) 74.
[2] cf. already iota 90.
