Headword: *)hci/ou
Adler number: eta,406
Translated headword: thought fit
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] had in mind. Procopius [writes]: "for [Justinian] did not think fit to adapt his deeds to the occasions, but he always did everything out of season."[1]
Also [sc. attested is the plural] h)ci/wn ["they thought fit"].[2]
Greek Original:
*)hci/ou: dia\ fronti/dos ei)=xe. *proko/pios: ou) ga\r h)ci/ou toi=s kairoi=s e)narmo/zein ta\s pra/ceis, a)ll' a)po\ kairou= panto\s ei)rga/zeto. kai\ *)hci/wn.
Notes:
The headword (presumably extracted from the quotation given) is imperfect, third person singular, of the verb a)cio/w (alpha 2824).
[1] Procopius, Secret History 18.29.
[2] Evidently quoted from somewhere, but not attested in texts available on TLG. It seems to be from a)cia/w (cited by LSJ from two inscriptions) rather than the usual a)cio/w.
