Adler number: eta,19
Translated headword: having come of age
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning they] having matured [1].
Eunapius [writes]: "and the boys having come of age and gained control of their heart and hands".[2]
Also "to have been of age for two years" is said whenever the sons of heiresses seem to have become ready to inherit their father's estate. Isaeus says: "we consider it necessary that the closest male relative live with her and that the fortune meanwhile should belong to the heiress, but that, whenever the sons have been of age for two years, they should take control of it."[3]

Notes:
h(bh/santes is a sigmatic aorist active participle from h(ba/w. Compare eta 13 and eta 14 for other forms of this verb.
[1] More literally "having come to their peak." For this gloss cf. the scholia to Homer, Iliad 5.550, where h(bh/sante occurs.
[2] Referring to emotional and physical self-control. (This phrase is not otherwise preserved amongst the fragments of Eunapius.)
[3] Isaeus, fragmentary orations 2.2 (Roussel) = fr. 90 Sauppe; cf. tau 322. [Isaeus 10.12, noted ('cf.') by Adler, is not even close enough to be a paraphrase.] On the phrase in question cf. generally epsilon 2297.
