Headword: Ἐλαιόδευστος
Adler number: epsilon,765
Translated headword: oil-drenched
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] that which is[1] soaked with olive oil.
Greek Original:
Ἐλαιόδευστος: ἡ ἐλαίῳ διάβροχος.
The headword adjective, transmitted in most mss as ἐλαιόδευστος , should almost certainly be ἐλαιόδευτος , as it is, Adler reports, in ms V (and consistently in Cyril of Alexandria: see further, next note). Note also ps.-Zonaras s.v. ἐλαιόδευτον , glossed τὸ ἐλαιόβρεκτον
[1] Feminine, in fact. Such glossing means that the headword itself was applied either to a women or, much more probably, to a feminine noun. In all nine instances in Cyril (see above) that noun is semidalis (sigma 218).
