Note:
The name -- literally meaning Snake-man -- of two figures in mythology (OCD(4) s.v.): husband of Agave and father of Pentheus; son of Hermes and twin brother of Erytos, both of them Argonauts and participants in the Calydonian boar-hunt. The present entry presumably concerns the latter; cf. in any case iota 368.
