Headword: *eu)dai/mwn o( *kori/nqios, e)gw\ d' ei)/hn *tenea/ths
Adler number: epsilon,3408
Translated headword: fortunate is Corinth but for myself I would rather be a Teneate
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Tenea [is] a verdant village near Corinth [1]. The proverb originated from the fact that the Corinthians, in their large city, were subject to jealousies and preoccupations, whereas the Teneates lived a more carefree life because it was simple.

Notes:
Imperfectly derived from the paroemiographer Zenobius (3.96), where the headword phrase is as given here. The Suda changes Korinthos into the unmetrical Korinthios.
The headword phrase was already proverbial in the time of Strabo, who classifies it as an oracular response (8.6.22). See J. Fontenrose, The Delphic oracle: its responses and operations with a catalogue of responses (Berkeley & Los Angeles 1978) 347 #Q242.
[1] Barrington Atlas map 58 grid D2. The town of Tenea, settled (according to Pausanias 2.5.4, web address 1) by inhabitants of the island of Tenedos (Barrington Atlas map 57 grid E2) that were taken prisoner by the Greeks, but allowed by Agamemnon (alpha 140) to settle in the Peloponnese, is in the same Barrington grid, but inland approximately 12km south of Corinth and 15km north-east of Mycenae (mu 1393).
