Εὐγενής: ὑπὲρ γένους ἤπερ πατρίδος. ἐπὶ δὲ τῆς τελευτῆς, ἐπεὶ ἔδει τὴν τῶν ὅπλων παράδοσιν ποιήσασθαι, ὀδυρμός τις εὐγενὴς ἦν, καὶ παράστασις ψυχῆς πρὸς ἐλευθερίαν ἐνέπεσε τοῖς πλήθεσι. Σοφοκλῆς: ἀλλ' ἢ καλῶς ζῆν ἢ καλῶς τεθνηκέναι τὸν εὐγενῆ χρή. πάντ' ἀκήκοας λόγον.
