The headword -- aorist indicative active, third person plural, of sti/zw (cf. sigma 1107) -- occurs in the sense indicated in a well-known passage of Herodotus, 7.233.2: web address 1), quoted in Plutarch's On the Malignity of Herodotus 866F, so it might be extracted from there. Alternatively, from some account of a notorious (but possibly apocryphal) tattooing incident which the Suda also discusses at sigma 75, sigma 77 (q.v. for further references) and tau 142.
