Translated headword: Erechtheides

Translation:
[Meaning] the son of Erechtheus.
Greek Original:
*)erexqei/dhs: o( tou= *)erexqe/ws pai=s.
Notes:
Likewise, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon (1848).
For Erechtheus cf. under beta 357 and passim, and generally Emily Kearns in OCD(4) s.v.; Perseus Encyclopedia entry at web address 1.
Since he was the notional ancestor of all Athenians, the present phrase need not refer to any one of them in particular. If it does, it is perhaps his son the second King Kekrops (ruled trad. 1347/6-1308/7, i.e. not kappa 1272); but note also e.g. Pausanias 7.17.7 on Theseus as Erechtheides.
