Headword: *)epe/brisen
Adler number: epsilon,2023
Translated headword: pressed down, pressed on
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] weighed down/on.
Greek Original:
*)epe/brisen: e)peba/rhsen.
Notes:
The headword is aorist indicative active, third person singular, of e)pibri/qw. Same glossing already in Hesychius epsilon4293; evidently quoted from somewhere (Latte's edition of Hesychius says Homer, Iliad 12.414 (web address 1), but there the verb is plural).
The earliest attestation of this form, with or without the nu-moveable, is in Plutarch, De fortuna Romanorum 321F (where the sense is figurative -- as, of course, it may also be here).
cf. epsilon 2250, epsilon 2251.
