[1] Assuming that the gloss should have a paroxytone accent, farma/kou. Adler's reading (also in Hesychius) is perispomenon, farmakou=, and should mean "scapegoat." Note Psalm 57.6 LXX: h(/tis ou)k ei)sakou/setai fwnh\n e)pa|do/ntwn farma/kou te farmakeuome/nou para\ sofou=, "which will not hear the voice of enchanters or of the clever wizard making magic." Some commentators on this passage have the singular participle, so the headword for the source of the present entry could have been e)pa/|dontos farma/kou, glossed by go/htos.
