Adler number: epsilon,1781
Translated headword: to remove the ichor, to remove the juice
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] to squeeze [it] out, to expel the ichor.[1]
"And as if to expel the juice [sc. and turn it] into fish-sauce [garum]."[2]
Greek Original:
*)ecixwri/zesqai: e)kpie/zesqai, to\n i)xw=ra e)kba/llein. kai\ oi(=on ei)s ga/ron e)cixwri/zesqai.
Notes:
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras.
[1] The headword is present middle/passive infinitive of the rare verb e)cixwri/zw. Presumably, in the light of the second glossing phrase, it is to be understood as middle rather than passive; and presumably too it is extracted from the quotation given, where it must bear a different meaning than the only one registered by LSJ s.v. ('cleanse from humors'). For ichor and its several applications, see generally iota 794, alpha 4711.
[2] From Herodian, Symposium; quoted by the grammarian Orion [Author, Myth] (tau151.17). See also tau 122, tau 124. For garum, see gamma 66.
