[1] The headword is present participle, masculine nominative plural, of the verb e)ca/rxw (cf. epsilon 1561, epsilon 1562). It is probably extracted from Homer, Iliad 18.606 ( = Odyssey 4.19), where the phrase molph=s e)ca/rxontes was much quoted (Athenaeus, Dionysius of Halicarnassus, etc.etc.).
