Headword: *)/enioi
Adler number: epsilon,1355
Translated headword: some
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] notable [men]; or some [sc. but not others], or certain [men].
Greek Original:
*)/enioi: faneroi/: h)\ oi( me/n, h)\ tine/s.
Notes:
Similarly already in Hesychius epsilon3112. The headword -- masculine nominative plural of e)/nios (cf. epsilon 1327) -- must be quoted from somewhere, but is far too commonplace to track down.
The 'notable' sense is not registered by LSJ, and might simply be an over-interpretation of passages which contrast a large group with a smaller (notionally more select) one.
