[Meaning they who were] stricken with fear. Also [sc. attested is the singular] dei/sas, [meaning he who was] stricken with fear.[1]

And Appian [writes]: "frightened for Cicero, Caesar turned back around."[3]
And elsewhere: "[Candidus] being frightened both for himself and for the city ..."[4]
Greek Original:
Deisantes: phobêthentes. kai Deisas, phobêtheis. Hêrodotos: ho de deisas peri tois Hellêsi, mê ou dunôntai ton barbaron huperbalesthai. kai Appianos: deisas ho Kaisar peri tôi Kikerôni hupestrephen eis toupisô. kai authis: ho de deisas peri te hoi autôi kai têi polei.
Notes:
[1] Aorist active participles (masculine nominative plural and masculine nominative singular) of dei/dw, glossed with the corresponding aorist passive participles of fobe/w; cf. generally epsilon 220, mu 879. Same or similar glossing in other lexica. Both participles are presumably quoted from somewhere, the singular perhaps (though not demonstrably) from one of the three quotations given here.
