Note:
The headword phrase, in the accusative plural, is quoted from Greek Anthology 6.107.4 (Philip). On this epigram, the hunter Gelon's dedication to Pan, see Gow and Page (vol. I, 310-311) and (vol. II, 343-344). Here the Suda lexicographer has reversed the epigram's word order. As Gow and Page note (vol. II, 344), pa/gh (trap, snare, or net) is a general term, signifying anything that fixes or fastens; cf. LSJ s.v. (web address 1). The adjective, deragxh/s (strangling, here in the Doric accusative plural), shows that the snare is indeed a noose; cf. LSJ s.v. (web address 2).
