Also [sc. attested is the comparative] deciw/teros, meaning good. "And [he] bade anyone of them who [was] right and merciful to take courage."[2]
And decioi/ is what they used to call those who had been well-educated. "[He] seeking to be clever." Aristophanes in Clouds [says this].[3]
"He became a friend to this man and gave him his right hand, and was planning to entertain [him]."[4]
And Josephus [writes]: "he sought to come down upon the right hand [of friendship]." That is, upon a treaty.[5]
The ancients also used to call decioi/ those who had military experience and were worthy of praise; but those soldiers who ran away they called litigious and sycophants.[6]
