Vetting Status: high
Translation:
A type of children's game.
Greek Original:
*drapeti/nda: ei)=dos paidia=s.
Notes:
It is further defined, post-Suda, in Etymologicum Magnum 286.48: "It is a form of the game called 'shut-eye' (mui+/nda, which might also mean the 'mouse game'). It is named from the fact that one of the children shuts his eyes, shouting, 'Watch out, take care!' The others run away, taking care not to be hunted down. It is named from the running away of slaves [delta 1502, delta 1503] and from the fact that boys playing it flee."
The ending -inda is used for children's games such as basilinda (beta 160, beta 161) and chytrinda (chi 619), and is discussed by the grammarians.
