Greek Original:
*xalubw/nios oi)=nos.
Notes:
Unconnected, it seems, with chi 60 (q.v.).
Athenaeus, Deipnosophists 1.28D (1.51 Kaibel): 'the Persian king used to drink only Chalybonian wine, which Posidonius says is also grown at Damascus in Syria, since the Persians had introduced viticulture there'. (Also mentioned by Strabo, Plutarch, and others.)
The two sites implied here may be reflected in the two locations noted in the Barrington Atlas: a city called Chalybon (present-day Halbun) near Damascus (Map 69 grid D2) and an area called Chalybonitis much further north (Map 67 grid F4).
