[Meaning] of those experiencing bad luck.
"Those in the council became close-mouthed and changed their minds, suffering together with the agony of the unfortunates".[1]
Greek Original:
Ἀκληρούντων: δυστυχούντων. τοὺς ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ ἀχανεῖς γενέσθαι καὶ παρεκστῆναι ταῖς διανοίαις, συμπάσχοντας τῇ τῶν ἀκληρούντων ὑπερωδυνίᾳ.
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras. The headword -- present participle, masculine (or neuter) plural, of the verb ἀκληρέω -- is perhaps (though not demonstrably) extracted from the quotation given.
cf. generally alpha 895, alpha 896.
[1] Polybius fr. 192 Büttner-Wobst; again at pi 531 and upsilon 347. Büttner-Wobst notes that the fragment was attributed to Polybius by Ursinus (Fulvio Orsini, 1529-1600) and accepted by Schweighäuser (p. 539). Büttner-Wobst (ibid.) also suggests the emendation τοὺς ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ (πάντας ) ἀχανεῖς γενέσθαι (All those in the council became close-mouthed).
