The rule. The dissyllabic [nouns] which end in -is and have an unchanging [syllable] before the -is are oxytone if they decline via d -- like smaris, triglis -- but barytone if [they do so] via t.[1]
In the Epigrams: "a mullet from the charcoal and a wrasse, Artemis of the harbour, I give to you".[2]
