Notes:
c.407-340/339 BCE. See generally OCD4 s.v.
[1] Eurymedon of the deme Myrrhinous (LGPN ii s.v. no.6; not the well-known general of that name, who is no.3). See Diogenes Laertius 3.4, 4.1; and J.K. Davies, Athenian Propertied Families (Oxford 1971) 334.
[2] 348/7 BCE. Speusippus died after serving eight years as head of the Academy; he was succeeded by Xenocrates (xi 42, xi 43).
[3] This statement contradicts that of Diogenes Laertius 4.1, that Speusippus was easily overcome by pleasures.
[4] Diogenes Laertius 4.1 preserves the story that Speusippus in a fit of anger threw his puppy into a well.
