In the
Epigrams: "and I bring to you, o Demeter, a round cake in a basket on this threshing-floor."[4]
It was customary for the Attic-speakers to pronounce
fqoi=s [accusative plural] as a monosyllable. "[I see the priest] snatching up the cakes and the dried figs".
