Translation:
Son of Ligyrtyades, from Colophon or Smyrna or Astypalaea, elegiac poet. He flourished in the 37th Olympiad,[1] so he preceded the seven sages; but some say that he was their contemporary. He was also called Ligyastades[2] because of his harmony and sweetness [ligu]. He wrote these many books.[3]

[2] This is the form of the name in the epigram quoted by Diogenes Laertius 1.61. Adler follows the editio princeps of the Suda in preferring it to the variants given by the Suda mss.
[3] 'These' (tau=ta) does not seem right, without a list appended. Adler notes suggested emendations: e)rwtika\ ta\ (Bernhardy), pa/nu (Gutschmid).
