"Mouth of religiously-silent thought", [meaning its] voice.[1] For [the word] mouth [can also mean] the voice. Homer [writes]: "war's mouth".[2] And Sophocles [writes]: "of a bronze-mouthed bell".[3] The sense [is], they uttering the voice of religiously-silent thought. Which is [to say], giving vent to words in holy manner with much care. So [the term] eu)/fhmos denotes the silent; for the [verb] eu)fhmei=n is applied to keeping silence.[4]
