Translation:
Of Athens. Rhetor. Son of Atrometus and Glaucothea; he studied rhetoric with Alcidamas of Elea.[1] Some have written that his parents were slaves. This man, when he was collaborating in some legal case and corrupted the jurors, was thrown into jail with them and died of drinking hemlock; their property was publicly sold, as if they were childless.[2] However, he settled in Rhodes and taught there after he had been beaten by Demosthenes in the case concerning the crown.[3] He was the very first whose improvisation excited the cry, 'Your speech is inspired!', as if he were possessed.

Notes:
C4 BC; the same Aeschines as alphaiota 348. [Not to be confused with alphaiota 346/alphaiota 349.] See generally RE Aischines(15); NP Aischines(1); OCD4 Aeschines(1); Philostratus, Lives of the Sophists 1.18.
[1] [alpha 1283] Alcidamas.
[2] Again as a tailpiece to epsilon 226. Manifest nonsense, at least as far as the supposed death of Aeschines is concerned.
[3] 330 BC.
