The Arimaspeans were a fabled tribe from the far north whose members each had only one eye. See Herodotus 3.116, 4.13, and 4.27 (with a supposed etymology from the Scythian "arima", meaning "one", and "spou", meaning "eye"); (?)Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound 803-6; and see generally OCD(4) p.152.
There were also a people called the Arimaspai (or Ariaspai) who dwelt east of the lake at the heart of Drangiana/Zarangiana in present-day Iran and Afghanistan.
