[1] Or: '"Parthians" is what Scythians are called in the Persian language'. On the Scythians see sigma 703 and sigma 704. On this equation of them, bizarre at first sight, with the Parthians, cf. the note at pi 672. But 'the Persian language' is of no obvious relevance to either term.
