That of a character in Greek mythology. Aiolios was one of the long sequence of unsuccessful suitors -- Pelops being the eventually successful one -- of Hippodameia (PW 1.1034), daughter of Oinomaos [Author, Myth]: see Pausanias 6.21.11; scholion d to Pindar, Olympians 1.79(127); and a broken line of a papyrus fragment of the Hesiodic Catalogue of Women (Eoiai fr. 16.13 Merkelbach/West).
'Aiolios' is also used as an adjective in the names of the Aeolian Islands (OCD(4) p.23), where Aiolos (alphaiota 252) was worshipped as a god in Hellenistic times (Diodorus Siculus 20.101.2), and of the Aeolian mode of music.
