Headword: Thimbrôn
Adler number: theta,385
Translated headword: Thimbron, Thibron
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
A Spartan. This man was sent into Asia, as a fixer[1], after the Peloponnesian [War].
Greek Original:
Thimbrôn, Lakedaimonios. houtos ên pemphtheis eis tên Asian harmostês meta ta Peloponnêsiaka.
Notes:
Abridged from Harpokration (and Photius) s.v., commenting on Isocrates 4.144.
The correct form of the name appears to be not 'Thimbron' (for which, besides here and Harpok., see Ephorus FGrH 70 F71 and Plutarch, Artaxerxes 20.3) but the 'Thibron' of his contemporaries Isocrates (loc.cit.) and, consistently, Xenophon.
[1] In Greek, a harmost.
