epsilon 3776,
epsilon 3777, and OCD(4) s.v. Eutropius(2)) was minister (395-399) under
Arcadius and in 396 summoned Timasius to Constantinople (
gamma 78) from
Pamphylia (OCD(4) s.v.). Timasius' traveling assumptions, the subject of this passage, were truly naive. Upon arrival in Constantinople he was convicted of treason in a trial rigged by Eutropius and then exiled to the Great Oasis (the present-day Kharga Oasis, 100 km south of Asyut, Egypt), where he seems to have perished (see PLRE).
