Headword: Ocheion
Adler number: omicron,1041
Translated headword: breeding-horse, carriage, ocheion
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Dinarchus used [this word] instead of o)/xhma ["carriage"]. But the same [writer] also used it to mean [a horse] designated for breeding [o)xei/a]. For he says: "they are buying, of my horses, a stallion".[1] Lycurgus in the [speech] On Financial Administration says "neighbors of the ocheion".[2] And perhaps some took this expression to refer to the place in which horse-breeding takes place or carriages are for hire.

Notes:
Abridged from Harpokration (and Photius) s.v.
[1] Dinarchus fr. LXXI.3 Conomis -- for both passages: Harpok. shows that both are from the same speech. (In the second, the direct quotation, shifts from omicron to omega have occurred since Harpok. Read: "they are buying my horse, a stallion".) For the noun o)xei/a, see omicron 1039; for o)/xhma, see omicron 1043.
[2] Lycurgus fr. 26 Conomis.
