Headword: Epithetous heortas
Adler number: epsilon,2327
Translated headword: extra festivals
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Isocrates in Areopagitikos [sc. uses this phrase].[1] It is the festivals that are not traditional, but voted for by other means, that they used to call "extra". And other things too were described as "extra" amongst them, [such as] the non-traditional jurisdiction of the Areopagos council.[2] Lysias speaks of "extra letters", those given to certain people to carry.[3] And "to add letters" means to hand them over. And "he added" means he handed over.[4]
