Headword: UNKNOWN_Hoti houtos ho megas Alexandros, nikêsas naumachian Lakedaimonious kai_
Adler number: alpha,1123
Translated headword: Alexander, Alexandros
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
This Alexander the Great, having defeated the Lakedaimonians in a sea-battle and fortified Peiraieus and sacrificed a hecatomb,[1] feasted all the Athenians.
Greek Original:
Hoti houtos ho megas Alexandros, nikêsas naumachian Lakedaimonious kai teichisas ton Peiraia kai hekatombên thusas pantas heistiasen Athênaious.
Notes:
From alpha 731. Since Alexander (alpha 1121, alpha 1122) did none of the things attributed to him there (and again here), this must be case of mistaken identity. Athenaeus, Deipnosophists 1.3D = 1.5 Kaibel (the source of alpha 731) allows us to rectify it: "... Alexander the Great. KONON, having defeated the Lakedaimonians in the sea-battle at Knidos [394 BCE]...".
[1] A hundred oxen, notionally.
