  • An asterisk (*) alone will show you everything
  • An asterisk (*) can also represent missing parts of a word: thus Rom* returns Rom, Rome, Roman, Romans
  • Find all ANRW entries written in a particular language simply by searching for English, French, German, or Italian
  • Boolean searches will work: for example principate and english
  • You can also try regular expressions, e.g. R[oö]m or Caesar|August*
  • Articles can also be found by searching for content key words. Key words indexed consist at minimum of large generic groupings such as "law," "literature," and "religion." Searches may also be made for specific topics, such as (for example) "jews" or "plato*". These key words have been almost entirely inferred from article titles and the subject matter of surrounding articles; suggestions or corrections are welcome.

This utility was developed by Jim Ruebel and Ross Scaife (deceased), with perl scripts written by Oscar Nierstrasz and later refined for our purposes by Raphael Finkel (current maintainer). The database includes all volumes known to be published to date and will be updated as additional volumes are published. Please send corrections, suggestions for additional keywords, alerts as to newly published material, or other comments to Jim Ruebel (jruebel at bsu.edu).
