Homework: Analysis of Algorithms, Fall 2009
Rules of the game: You may not use outside sources to obtain solutions to
homework problems. You may not look for answers on the world wide web. You
may read outside sources to help you understand the general material we are
covering in the course, but you may not look at specific answers to homework
problems, including answers from other students at UK. You may talk to other
members of the class about the course content or about general ideas on
solving homework problems, but you may not copy or look at other students'
solutions to the homework. Any help from others must also be acknowledged.

Guidelines
Problems are worth 0 - 10 points.
Here is the gist of how points will be assigned:
- 10 points
- You did it just right.
- 8-9 points
- Relatively minor problems.
- 5-7 points
- Problems, but method (at least) essentially correct.
- 3-4 points
- Wrong method, you completely misunderstood the problem,
or the grader was unconvinced you understood what you were doing.
- 1-2 points
- Wrong method, and you didn't do that very well.
- 0 points
- couldn't find, or could not read or follow, your
answer.
Friendly suggestions to get better scores and or the benefit of the
doubt:
- Turn in something legible, with space between problems, and the
problems in the expected order.
- Show steps. Doing so can reveal that your mistake was minor, which
is to your benefit. Not doing so can leave doubt that you understood the process
you're being asked to demonstrate.
- Format:
If you use multiple sheets of paper, staple them
together at the upper lefthand corner. Do not fold your homework. Print your
name clearly at the top of the first page, and underline the part of your name
by which the university alphabetizes you (usually your family name).
