First CS 101 Lab

These labs (like all our labs) are held in RGAN 211, in person.

The first CS 101 lab is meant to accomplish certain things. We want to make sure that EVERYONE can access the software (Windows, MS Excel) for the first Lab Test! That is why it is REQUIRED that students attend it. You get 10 points for being at the right place at the right time and performing the tasks listed below.

All of these tasks must be done to get the 10 points for the First Lab.

  1. Show your TA you can log into Canvas with your University account and find the Practice Lab Tests page (on Canvas front page).
  2. Show that you can send your TA email. The email address for your TA, Xu Tao, in sections 1, 2, 401 is send your email to Dr. Keen (keen@uky.edu) The subject must be "CS 101 Email Section xx" where xx is your section number. It is best to be sent from your uky.edu address. The body of the email can be anything that you want. This email must be sent by you and received by your TA before you leave the lab that period. It will not be accepted later. Important Hint that will save you points! DO NOT LEAVE the Lab until you are sure you don't get a "bounce" email message in your mailbox! Lots of people have lost points by leaving and not checking their mail for days and then find they misspelled an email address. You WILL lose the points that way! You must send the email while the TA is there! Note: your TA will always use your uky.edu address. This is where we mail to for any discussion of your grades. It's a legal thing that we have to use the University address!

Also, if you want to ask questions about the practice tests for the first Lab Test, your TA can discuss those with you.

If you miss the first lab, for ANY reason, you must still see your TA during your next scheduled lab session (even though it is "open") to show them that you can do the First Lab Tasks.

If you miss your first lab because of a "UK valid" excuse which you have documentation for (sickness, death in the family, academic trip, religious holiday), then you MUST contact Dr. Keen with documentation of your excuse within one week of the scheduled date of the lab.

If you miss your first lab because you hadn't added the class until after it met, see Dr. Keen.

If you miss your first lab and you do not have an accepted excuse, you will NOT get the points.
