Magic Excuse Cards - The Rules

You will be given a Magic Excuse Card by your TA in lab. It is customized to you with your name and section on it. It gives you a 24-hour extension on a program deadline. It is ONE-use only.

You use it by either handing it to your TA or Dr. Keen and stating which program you want to use it on, or by emailing your TA and telling them that you want to use it. If you email your TA, you must hand over the card at the very next opportunity - your extension is not valid until you do. If you intend to use it on a particular program assignment, you must state your intention BY the "5 school days after the deadline" point. That is the point that we stop accepting program assignments at all. After that point it is too late to use your card.

The card is NOT transferrable. You cannot give it to someone else for their use.

If you lose the physical card but you have not used it yet, you need to tell your TA that you have lost it. After a check of the records, you will be issued another.

This card is the equivalent of 10 points on most program assignments (Program 1 is only worth 50 points so it is worth 5 points if used on that assignment). If your program is more than 1 day late, penalties will accrue as usual after the extension.

This card cannot be used on anything but program assignments. It does not work on labs or quizzes or attendance.

If you have a _valid_ excuse (like documented illness, death in family, academic trip, religious holiday), then do NOT use this card! Let Dr. Keen know about the excuse and give her your documentation and deadlines can be adjusted. You don't need a Magic Excuse Card for this.
