Assessment Artifacts
Process:
- [ARTIFACTS] = for each of the SLO listed in your course outcomes (also supplemental questions for the TCE), we need to collect
"artifacts" - sample assignments and specific tasks/questions on the assignments that support the specific SOL.
From guidelines: "Using homework as an artifact is discouraged unless you know that students work independently."
- [PRACTICE] -
The assignments/questions should be constructed in such a way, that they
would allow to differentiate between students whose performance [exceeds
expectations], [meets expectations], [does not meet expectations], [is lacking]
(names of categories may differ). The assessment (by ABET expectations) is
different from grading and requires that rubrics are used.
- [WHAT TO REPORT] - as in the past, a portfolio from each class with
undergrads is required. Hoever, we have to collect data throughout the entire semester.
A half-semester report is expected before teh Spring break.
In the narrative description, for each of the assessed
SOL, the following statement is needed:
"SOL (cite the SOL) has been assessed in the following assignments (list assignments, and quote specific parts/questions).
A random sample of students work has been selected and then evaluated with rubrics (attached).
The results are as follows.
- [exceeds expectations] - the number of students/the number of assessed responses
- [meets expectations] - the number of students/the number of assessed responses
- [almost meets expectations but some elements missing] - the number of students/the number of assessed responses
- [does not meet expectations] - the number of students/the number of assessed responses
[
- substantially lacking] - the number of students/the number of assessed responses
- Comments: the % of students who attained the [meets expectations] level or above is.
- Suggested improvements actions are: [very important, in fact one of the main goals of the assessment].
The above numbers are the result of assessing specific questions for specific SOL using rubrics.
