CS-UK course portfolio

(Note: the procedure for the assessment and evaluation changed in Fall 2015)

Multiple files should be tared into one file; e.g. tar cvf cs315f2015.tar cs315f2015, where cs315f2015 is a directory that includes your course related files. You may also wish to compress it into a tar.gz file.

A typical structure of the portfolio directory, with changes suggested by College:
  • REQUIREMENTS with PARTS ADDED BY THE COLLEGE FOR 2015/2016
    • For ALL undergraduate courses taught this semester and next, (CS SOL map [for Spring2016]) (CS SOL map [for Fall 2015]) instructors need to keep samples of student work for quizzes and exams that will be placed in the course binders. Each binder should contain:
    • course description (from the Bulletin)
    • course syllabus
    • TCE results
      TCE supplemental questions
    • ASSESSMENT DATA
    • Instructor's reflective statement and narrative is one of the most important parts and should be prepared based on data collected from student performance on the course assignments. In evaluating the level of achieving the course and program learning outcomes,it is critical to use specific evidence based on scores from clearly identified assignments (homework, programming, exams, projects), and clearly defined rubrics. Sample Rubrics [generic-- customize for specific course/assignment] - these sample rubrics provide guidelines but should be customized. Note also, that the scale for rubrics used in our assessment should be Exceeds standards[4], Meets Standards[3], Partially Meets Standards[2], Does not meet standards[1].
      1. Sample assessment of Student Outcomes:
      2. Student Outcomes assessed in this course
      3. Instruments (artifacts: specific questions, assignments, etc.)) used in the assessment: artifacts.html (new name: instruments)
      4. Description of the process used in selecting samples
      5. Rubrics used for evaluation
      6. Instructor's report of the results, detailed statistics based on the evaluation with rubrics (how many students exceeded expectations, met expectations, etc.) Exact format, such as an Excel template to report data, will be provided.
      7. Recommendations for improvement actions -- a critical element of the assessment)
      8. sample narrative_assessment 2 - new
      9. sample narrative_assessment - new this example is from Spring 2015 and for Fall 2016, we use a more specific template for reporting cummulative results
    • copies of all course HW assignments
    • copies of all course quizzes and exams
    • copies of all course project assignments
    • samples of student work
    • For each quiz, exam and project (not HW), faculty should collect examples of graded student work, as follows:
    • one sample of outstanding work
    • one sample of average work
    • one sample of fair/poor work
    • Note that those examples are different from a sample selected for assessment.
  • notes (examples, sample instructional materials)
  • additional-materials (anything relevant you would like to include)

Instructor's reflective statement and narrative is one of the most important parts and should be prepared based on data collected from student performance on the course assignments. In evaluating the level of achieving the course and program learning outcomes, it is critical to use specific evidence based on scores from clearly identified assignments (homework, programming, exams, projects), and clearly defined rubrics.
