Ph.D. Warsaw University of Technology, 1980, Mathematics
Artificial intelligence; knowledge representation and reasoning; declarative programming; constraint satisfaction.
Elected to serve as the president of KR, Inc., a professional organization dedicated to the advancement of knowledge representation and reasoning.
Truszczynski's research group is interested in qualitative formalism for modeling preferences and for reasoning about them. Such formalisms are increasingly important for product configuration, for recommender systems and, more generally, as components of decision support systems. In a separate but closely related project, Truszczynski is developing software for answer-set programming, an approach to solving search and optimization problems. In particular, we are implementing modeling languages and study ways to improve the performance of problem-solving software.
