Funded by the Office of International Science and Engineering at the National Science Foundation to partner with the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan, on a pilot study to explore the application of digitalization and digital restoration techniques, developed by Seales and his research team, in the context of the collections at the NPM. The NPM is regarded as one of the foremost museums in Asia, with collections containing unique and priceless manuscripts and artifacts from eras spanning Asian pre-history up to the present day.
Seales is working to release a digital representation of several previously inaccessible manuscripts. The facsimiles will provide scholars and the public with unprecedented access in order to study, appreciate, and learn about these priceless objects. The representation includes spectacular, high-resolution images, accurate 3D shape models, connections to the scholarly work of others, and images from ultraviolet and infrared lighting. (Funded by NSF).
